All About Microblading

Eyebrows are such a prominent face feature - it’s no wonder people spend so much time, money and effort perfecting them with pencils, gels, powders and stencils. Well, now you can bid your daily routine goodbye thanks to eyebrow Microblading!

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent solution to thin or sparse brows, or even if you're looking for something more shapely and bold. Sometimes referred to as eyebrow embroidery, eyebrow feathering, 3D brows or micropigmentation, microblading is a type of tattoo artistry that involves implanting pigment under the skin using a special hand held tool that features a fine blade with a series of micro-needles. Each individual stroke is made one at a time for results that are incredibly natural looking.

Microblading is done with a manual tool and not a tattoo gun, and the pigment consists of an iron oxide base that is deposited into only the first layer of skin. Due to this nature, we’re able to mimic the look of real hairs. While other permanent makeup procedures often fade into unnatural colors and can make brows appear a deep blue or bold black, microblading uses colors that are customized for you depending on your natural hair and creates dimension that softly fades over time.

Results can last 1-2 years, but is not recommended for those with excessively oily skin. Prior to the start of the service, we will discuss your brow goals and map the perfect brow using key measurements. The service does not start until you approve the brow shape.

Disclaimer: Not everyone’s hair stroke brows can heal clean and crisp. Hair strokes for oilier skin types tend to heal more solid and powdery while drier skin types tend to heal more crisp and defined. Also those who bleed more may tend to need more touch-ups as the fluid pushes the pigment out while we are performing the service.

What Is Ombré/Powder Shading?

Ombré shading is a semi-permanent eyebrow styling technique that uses a small machine to place extremely thin dots of pigment into the skin, creating a soft-shaded brow pencil look.

Benefits of Ombré Brows

  • Ideal option for oily or sensitive skin, unlike microblading

  • Require less touch-up appointments

  • Gives the appearance of fuller, defined brows

Ombré brows are all skin types friendly and worthwhile investment.

Combination Brow

Do you desire the look of fully defined, makeup ready brows without the hassle of filling them in every morning? The combination brow is a combination of Microblading and Shading. This look is ideal for those who desire a penciled-in shaded brow. This technique implants hair strokes that gradually fade into a darker fuller brow but still retains a natural finish when healed. This technique is recommended for those who have oily skin and is also ideal for those that have brow hair but want to give them shape. This service is also recommended for those with little to no hair at all. Prior to the start of the service, we will discuss your brow goals and map the perfect brow using key measurements. The service does not start until you approve the brow shape.

Which service is right for you?

The service chosen depends upon your individualized goals. If you are still unsure, contact me directly or book a free consultation in which I am more than happy to consult with you prior to booking an appointment.

How It Works.

Our experienced microblading technician will start by evaluating your eyebrows and chatting with you about your aesthetic goals. The customized procedure takes about two hours total since it requires meticulous attention to detail.

We start by measuring and drawing the shape using a pencil to ensure your eyebrows will compliment your face structure and shape. Once the shape is drawn out and approved by you, we will then move on to the next step. To make you as comfortable as possible, we then apply a local topical to minimize any sensation of pain. While everyone has a different pain tolerance, most patients don’t experience any discomfort and say it feels as if they’re being lightly scratched. Once the anesthetic works its magic after 20 minutes, we kick off the actual microblading procedure.

Each client has a new, unused microblade to keep the process as sterile and worry-free as possible. We dip the microblade into the pigment and make fine strokes one by one to deposit the pigment under the skin for natural, gorgeous eyebrows made just for you with immediate results. We highly recommend scheduling an annual appointment* between 8-12 months after your initial procedure to maintain the color and shape of your new brows.

*Please note that an annual appointment is not the same as the perfecting touch-up appointment, which is required for each procedure 6-8 weeks after the initial appointment.

A $150 non-refundable deposit is required in order to book any form of semi-permanent makeup.

Initial Touch-Up is included, but must be done within the first 30-60 days to avoid an additional charge.

What is a Lip Correction?

Lip Correction is essentially where we will go in and correct areas in the lips where there may be a missing or dissolved border, this may involve a scar in the area as well.

What is Dark Lip Neutralization?

Dark Lip Neutralization is a specialized treatment series for those with cool or dark lips in which we neutralize the darkness in the lips to reach a desired color. We look at your lips and neutralize them by cancelling out the original color. With Dark Lip Neutralization, we include the initial appointment as well as 2 touch ups(if needed). Each session is spread out at least 6 weeks apart. It may take 1-3 sessions to achieve your look, there are special cases in which additional sessions are needed. Fitzpatrick 3 and up.

How Can Permanent Lip Liner and Lip Color Help You?

Permanent lip liner and lip color can improve the appearance of lips for women and men. It helps lips appear more defined without surgery or fillers and restores color to lips that are too pale. Permanent lip liner eliminates the daily use of pencils to outline, fill in, or reshape lip borders.

Permanent Makeup FAQs

HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?

Microblading can last up to 1 year or longer depending on the individuals care, skin type and lifestyle. Clients come in to be touched up as soon as one year to keep the brows in tip top shape.

DOES THE MICROBLADING PROCESS HURT?

You may experience slight discomfort during the first pass which takes about 2-3 minutes. (Nothing unbearable). Once we achieve the outline I will then apply a second numbing making the rest of the procedure virtually painless.

HOW LONG WILL MY BROWS TAKE TO HEAL?

The initial healing period is 7-10 days. The complete healing process takes between 6-8 weeks. There are a few factors that determine how your body heals such as age, skin type, and lifestyle. You may return to work or doing daily activities immediately after as long as you are following the proper after care instructions.

WHY DO I NEED A FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT?

The complete healing process takes about 6-8 weeks, at which time the true color of the microblading is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Be patient, even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and it is only after 6 weeks that your touch-up/adjustments can be done.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER?

Immediately following your procedure, the tattooed area will appear to be darker and bolder in color. This can last up to a week after treatment while the initial healing process takes place.

HOW LONG IS THE MICROBLADING PROCEDURE?

Please plan on being at our office 2-3 hours.

WILL MY SKIN BE RED OR SWOLLEN?

Redness is minimal with most clients, and will subside within a few hours.

DO I GET TO CHOOSE MY BROW SHAPE?

Your brow shape will be determined using measurements on the brow bone & your facial features. These measurements will be used as a guide, once the shape is drawn out and approved by you, we will then begin your Microblading procedure.

Post Procedure Care Instructions

After the procedure, the area treated will be darker and more intense. This will last a few days until the skin heals and peels and naturally exfoliates and the true color emerges. During the healing process, you may develop dry, or flaky and itchy skin around the treated area. This is completely normal. It is important not to rub, pick or scratch this area.

It is also important to note that even with proper aftercare, your brows can result in patches or fading spots. This is also completely normal as your body is trying to recover and reject this foreign object from your face. Your 6-8 week complimentary touch up is intended to replace any hair stokes lost during this initial healing process.

Here are some aftercare instructions on how to take care of your fresh new brows so that you may reap the maximum results.

  • No touching. You do not want to get any potential bacteria that may be on your hands or fingers to get into your healing brows. This could cause potential infection. Blot every hour with a cotton swab for the next 24 hours to remove lymph fluid and to help prevent scabbing.

  • Do not wet for 7 days, please wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the treated area. If you feel dust or discomfort on the treated area, wipe it gently with alcohol wipe.

  • No rubbing or picking the treated area. As your new brows heal, you may notice some flaking of your skin. This is completely normal. Picking at your newly treated brows may result is unwanted gaps that may have otherwise not happened.

  • For (Dry Skin Type) the first 7 days, keep a thin layer of ointment on your brows to keep them moist. Use a clean Q-Tip to apply as fingers may have bacteria that could cause infection. Once or twice a day should suffice.

  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, tanning beds, excessive sweating, and makeup in the brow area for at least 10 days. If you have to be in the sun, please wear a cap to protect your new brows. Following the first 10 days SPF is important for the longevity your micropigmentation.

  • You may also experience itchiness in the brows after the 10 days for up to 2 months due to the healing process of the dermal layer.

What to expect during the healing phase:

Day 1

You may experience redness however this will subside within a few hours. DO NOT expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after the first session. This can be a 2 step process. It takes time. BE PATIENT during your 10 day healing process your brows will change and appear different from day to day.

Day 2

The pigment in the brow area will appear darker than the initial color of the first day. This is due to oxidation of the pigment and is a normal occurrence.

Day 3

The skin in the brow area will begin to scab. You should continue use of the aftercare cream you were given at the time of your appointment.

Day 4-8

The skin in the brow area will continue to scab and eventually shed. It is of utmost importance that you do not pick the scabbing prematurely. This could cause pigment to life prematurely and/or cause scarring to the service area.

Day 9+

The crust should have completely shed and the pigment behind may look very faint. DO NOT WORRY!! The color will return gradually in the days to come.

Day 10-14

Your brows are healed externally! You may continue resume washing and makeup in the brow area. As a precaution, you should never chemical peer and/or exfoliate directly over the brows, however your normal skin routine may resume.

Post Day 14

*Your brow tattoo will take up to 4 weeks (28 days) to fully heal underneath the skin. Color will continue to change on a daily basis until all healing is complete at the 4 week mark.

*You may experience itchiness in the brows after the 10 days for up to 2 months due to the healing process of the dermal layer.
